BBC's Midsummer Nights Dream Review

Today I watched the BBC version of Midsummer Nights Dream adapted by Russel T. Davies. I knew of Davies' work but instead of letting that sway me I thought about what past me thought about Shakspeare - I knew of Shakespeare because I studied Romeo and Juliet at GCSE but, I had thought of him in a love and yet hating way because my grandfather had worked in amateur theatre and would talk about nothing but Theatre, Acting, Shakespeare and the like.
In short it bored me and I thought I wanted nothing to do with Shakepeare or anything related... Since then I have understood some things which perplexed me in his work especially since Shakespeare's 400th Birthday celebration.

According to the original Comedy Play of the same name, Midsummer Nights Dream is about the Marriage if Theseus, The Duke of Athens and a warrior, Hypolita who is captured and is to be forced in the marriage.

The adaptation starts has the same plot line beginning with Theseus telling his servants to have a party before the wedding, which is stopped by the arrival of a annoyed father, Eugeous and his daughter, Hermia because he is annoyed by her defiance to marry the chosen suitor who is a royal guard, because she loves a citizen called Lysander.

The beginning seemed really  overdone, even for telvision purposes but, I enjoyed it later because of the love triangle that Oberon's jester, Puck creates between Lovers Hermia and Lysander, Theseus' daughter Helena. The spell cast by Puck in this version causes Lysander, who is played by Matthew Tennyson.

This next part of the story had been changed, as Puck enchants Lysander and the Royal guard. -Insert Bisexual jokes about Shakespeare here?!
I haven't seen Tennyson in anything but since looking up the cast here: http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-05-30/meet-the-cast-of-a-midsummer
-nights-dream it's quite Ironic that he plays Lysander because he is mentioned as a former portrayal of Puck at Shakepeare's Globe. I think Puck is one of reasons why it is called Midsummer nights dream. Puck has to undo the "Dream" of the young lovers who are mucked about.
